Addressing the crucial industrial needs of fire safety and risk assessment within local industries, 'WRAP's Fire Safety Training Course' held at Pakistan Readymade Garments Training Institute (PRGTI) House on December 20, 2012. This is the first time when a series of international training courses are being organised in Pakistan by World-wide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP), in collaboration with Accordia Global Compliance Group.

Saifullah Khawaja, Director of WRAP's Bangladesh Liaison Office, was the lead trainer in the course. The participants were informed that a fire risk assessment in industrial setups is an organised and methodical look at factory premises, as there is always a likelihood that a fire could start and cause harm to those in and around the premises.

"Good management of fire safety is essential to ensure that fire is unlikely to occur, and if it does occur its likely to be controlled or contained quickly, effectively and safely. Also, everyone in the factory knows how to escape to a place of total safety", Khawaja explained.

The course covered aspects related with fire safety & protection, fire spread & combustion, routine fire prevention measures, effective response during fire, risk assessment, coupled with workable models of evacuation, including fire drills and pre-planning etc. Offering 'international expertise with local experience', the course also focused on fire safety laws in Pakistan and conducted practical fire-fighting sessions well.

Tailored to the specific risks and fire safety legislation in Pakistan, this international fire safety course also introduced an internationally-practiced '5 Steps Risk Assessment Process'. Addressing to the course participants, Inam al Rehman, Country Head Accordia Global Compliance Group Pakistan drew attention to the need of following modern fire safety trends and methods in the local industries.-PR
